My Sailing
I began sailing at age two, with my father who was self-taught when he was a teenager. We daysailed, cruised, and did a tiny bit of racing when I was a kid -Daysailer, Pearson Commander, Rhodes 19, Tartan 30, and chartered Cal 40 and J/35. I sailed a Sunfish off the beach every day, then an original Windsurfer. TM

I’ve sailed and raced so many boats- J/24s, Viper 640s, Sonars, to a variety of racer/cruisers, and flat out race boats, up to a TP 52. I’ve raced all over North America and in Europe. I have cruised, raced and delivered boats up and down the east coast of the US by water and on trailer. I was the owner’s representative racing on board a Club Swan 42 for Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Clup of Sydney Australia, in the New York Yacht Club Invitational in 2015. I’ve done a decent bit offshore racing, including numerous SORC events including two Miami to Havanna races.

Teaching Intro to Racing at MIT

Teaching & Coaching
I’ve spent most of my life teaching folks to sail. After attending college at Northeastern University, I started racing at Courageous Sailing Center in Charlestown, MA. I volunteered as an instructor and started a match racing series. I’ve taught and coached countless Viper 640 and Sonar owners and crew over 15+ years in my role with Rondar Raceboats. Now also at MIT Sailing, I’ve been teaching and coaching Intermediate Sailing and Learn to Race, which is a whole lot of fun for me! Helping smart, motivated people rocket up the learning curve is incredibly rewarding.

I coached 4 Paralympic sailing campaigns, culminating in a gold medal win in the 2008 Beijing Games. On all 4 campaigns, I did boat work, rigging work, and developed & evolved adaptive equipment & rigging. In the 2008 campaign, I rigged the gold-medal winning double-handed SKUD 18 from a bare hull.
